Thing 4

Twitter

Last year I created an account but did not do much. Now I have just updated my profile by adding a picture and I have subscribed to some lists. I can see why some people are very much into twitting since it is a way of getting in touch but at the same time I think that it can be a great waste of time. Why follow other people's conversations about everything they do during the day?

What I really like though is receiving regular twits from The New Yorker magazine; the cartoons are great!

RSS

This is a useful way of following sites and blogs in one place instead of hunting around. I have some RSS in my IGoogle page.

Storify

I had never heard of this before so I am glad that I know that it exists and how it works. At the moment though I cannot see what to do with it and  I am not interested in putting together  a story made up of comments about life and universe.

Thing 3

This is interesting, I have never thought about personal brand.

I tried to google my name and the most relevant thing is my facebook entry. My wall and profile are public so everybody can see what is my age, education, choice of books and music.
There are some profile pictures too. These are  taken while I was on holiday so people can see that I enjoy travelling. Maybe I should change the current picture of my profile showing me drinking a pint of beer. It might convey  the impression that I am on the bottle but for me  it is a reminder of a very good time I had recently in a restaurant in Budapest.

As for my blog I need to do some work, the style could certainly be improved and be more interesting.

Thing 2

I read some blogs. How many people are participating!

I must admit, I was attracted to the ones not related to library issues ... cake recipes and so on. I even left a comment.

It was interesting reading about the issue of social mobility, which is really bad in the UK, and how the problem is affecting very young children; how sad!

Thing 1

I want to join CPD23 because it might be interesting.

Last year I followed some of the activities and, although I did not write about them, I learned some  tips for my work at the Seeley. I had to design a new leaflet  for new readers so I used 'light shot' for copying pictures.

Beside, life in the library has become a bit boring recently so now I have something different to do.

Back again. Shall I finish this time? Shall I ever start? Who knows!

Wednesday, 3 August 2011

I am back! I am 300 things behind but I am back. Since I started I have been on holiday a few times and once back there was a big meltdown in the faculty of history: this means no computers and Internet for weeks..now something is working..a bit.. I am still battling with Ian Foot(the computer officer) in order to have my computer connected with The faculty printer... today I was told that my request does not count because officially he is on holiday...............

give me strenght!

the igoogle page was not so difficult. I added bits and pieces such as the bbc news, calendar, and so on, and of course Cambridge 23
